Phi Gamma Delta

Phi Gamma Delta was founded on May 1, 1848, at Jefferson College in Canonsburg, Pennsylvania. The founders of the Fraternity, reverently referred to by brothers today as the Immortal Six, were John Templeton McCarty, Samuel Beatty Wilson, James Elliott, Ellis Bailey Gregg, Daniel Webster Crofts, and Naaman Fletcher.The year of 1848, thus began the great tradition and the form of excellence that Phi Gamma Delta pursues.  This tradition and excellence is also bestowed upon  its members.
    The Fraternity began to spread its wings later that year, establishing a chapter at Washington College.  Since then, FIJI has opened its hearts to esteemed College and University campuses across the United States and Canada.  Currently the Phi Gamma Delta has chapters at 155 college and university campuses. The total membership is approximately 5,500 Undergraduate Brothers and over 90,000 Graduate Brothers worldwide.  International Headquarters is now located in Lexington, Kentucky.

Alpha Nu

The ninetieth star of Phi Gamma Delta rose proudly in the wester skies on October 22, 1966 with the installation of the Alpha Nu Chapter at the University of New Mexico, Albuquerque, NM. In October of 1965 the Albuquerque Graduate Chapter mew with two recent Fiji graduates, Victor S. Kamber and Samuel E. Honegger (both Illinois '65),

On Sunday October 31, 1965, 40 men, of whom the majority were freshmen, were entertained at a banquet at the Student Union Building given by the Graduate Chapter, with Field Secretary Stephen H. Edwards (Idaho '64) presiding. These 40 men were pledged that evening as the first members of the Delta Colony.

On October 22, 1966, less than one year after colonizing, the Alpha Nu Chapter was granted its charter, becoming the Chapter to most quickly receive its charter in the history of Phi Gamma Delta.

Alpha Nu has gone through many ups and downs since that time and today excelles in many activities both on and off capmus.
